Winter Sports Update:

All Cardinal winter sports programs are heading into the final weeks of competition. Find a way to get out and support the athletes this week…

Boys Basketball – The Cardinals (OSAA #27) have a great opportunity to stop a three game skid when they visit Valley Catholic (OSAA #1) on Tuesday night for a 7:30pm game. The game will also give the team the chance to move to .500 on the season, they are currently 9-10 overall with a league record of 4-9. The Boys return home on Wednesday night to host The Catlin Gabel Eagles at 7:30pm in a rescheduled game from this past Friday night. They will turn around and host the final regular season contest vs the Aardvarks of Oregon Episcopal School at 7:30pm on Thursday night. The Cardinals are fighting for the final Lewis and Clark League playoff spot and hope to be in the thick of things by weeks end.

Girls Basketball – Currently ranked #13 the girls travel to #2 ranked Valley Catholic on Tuesday in a must win situation to maintain their hold on second place in the Lewis and Clark league. At 14-6 the team has the opportunity to finish the regular season with 17 wins. The Cards are scheduled to host Catlin Gabel at 6:00pm on Wednesday night in a rescheduled event from this past Friday evening and then host OES on Thursday at 6pm in their final league matchup. Destiny is in their own hands as post season games will continue for the Lady Cards. With 3 league contests remaining they hold a slim one game lead over both The Rainier Columbians (#22)and The Portland Adventist Cougars (#12).

Wrestling – The Cardinals had a stellar performance this past Wednesday in their solo home league meet going 14-2 collectively against Scio, DeLaSalle, and Clatskanie. The Cardinals are lead by Jerry Mealey (21-0 [18 Pins]) and Jaycob Elmore (29-5 [20 Pins]). The team travels to Colton on Wednesday for a 5pm league event. The 3A-1 Special District Tournament will also be conducted at Colton on Saturday, Feb 22 – top 3 wrestlers in each weight class will qualify for the OSAA Wrestling State Championship at Veterans Memorial Coliseum Feb 28-March 1.

Swimming – The team is improving and looking forward to the Special District Meet to be held at Mt. Hood Community College Feb 14-15. Seniors swimming in their last official meet will be Peri Hildum, Jewel Denney, Clara Gorman, Cassidy Jones, and KJ Owen. Kady Halen looking to qualify again in the 50 Free and freshman Brandon Dexter will be vying for a state spot in both of his events.

A Benefit for All Our Sports Programs

The Corbett Boosters’ 8th Annual Red & Black auction and dinner will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014. If you’ve attended Corbett’s premiere sports fundraiser in the past, you’ve seen how the event has grown. If this will be your first year attending, we hope you enjoy the excitement of the evening and the incredible sense of pride we have in our athletes and athletic programs. This year, our gym will send you back to ‘A Masquerade Ball’ as our theme, and keeping with tradition, our high school athletes will serve the guests a delicious meal especially selected and prepared for you by one of Bugatti Restaurants’ Corporate chefs (Menu to come).

We hope you’re feeling ‘lucky’ from the moment you walk in with 3 silent auction closings and the excitement and exhilaration that our auctioneer Brad Caldwell (returning for his 7th Red & Black Auction) brings to the event. Don’t lose the ‘chance’ to play our ever popular Wine Toss and purchase a ticket or two and try to win the ‘lucky’ Golden Ticket. Two auction events you won’t want to miss!

Check out the website for great auction items:

The donation list grows daily. Golf packages, weekend getaways, restaurant gift certificates, and once in a lifetime items will be some of the donations you will find on the auction website.  Click the box above to be redirected to the Auction website to view the items.

Ticket Information:

Early Bird tickets are $40.00 each. Reserve a table for you and seven (7) of your closest friends to enjoy the evening for $350.00 on or before Friday February 28th. After February 28th, tickets are $50.00 each and a reserved table is $450.00. Tickets can be purchased at all home high school Varsity games, the grade school office, the middle/high school office, or by calling Rochelle at 503-667-6507 or 503-329-8868, or online at the auction website.

Why we do it:

The Red & Black Auction and Benefit Dinner is the single largest fundraiser for Corbett athletics. Approximately 500 athletes from Kindergartners through Seniors will participate in sports completely funded through the Corbett Boosters and Corbett Youth Sports this school year. Since the school district cut all funds for athletics, the Boosters/CYS have stepped up to provide the finances needed to maintain the storied sports’ traditions of our fine community. An average of $210,000 is needed annually for athletics to continue. An Evening with Red & Black is your opportunity to help ensure the future of Corbett’s sports programs is strong and financially sound. We look forward to seeing you at this wonderful evening!
